Panama City Beach spring break 2027

Spring break rules here are tied to March. For the whole month you can't have or drink alcohol on the sand, both within city limits and in Bay County's beach zone. Breaking the rule can cost up to $500. Many hotels set a minimum check-in age of 18 or 21. We haven't found the city's 2027 enforcement period yet.

When is spring break 2027?

Spring break dates in Panama City Beach

There is no single spring break date. Colleges set their own breaks. What's fixed in Panama City Beach is the month: Bay County's code defines spring break as March 1 to 31, unless the county changes or extends it by resolution, and the city's ban on alcohol on the beach covers the same dates.

On top of that, the city can declare a "High Impact Period" with extra measures for a set time and area. For 2026, the city set the period at March 28 to April 11 by a resolution passed in January; its rules applied only on those dates and only inside the marked zones (City of Panama City Beach). Local news reported nighttime beach closures (WJHG, March 27, 2026). For the same dates in the county's zone, the Bay County Sheriff's Office announced an 8 pm to 5 am curfew for anyone under 18 without a parent, guardian or approved adult, with exceptions such as work and emergencies, and no one under 18 in places that serve alcohol from 10 pm to 6 am (Bay County Sheriff's Office; the notice gives no year). We haven't found anything for 2027 yet; we check again in January and update this page. Because the 2026 period ran into April, check again if you're traveling in early April.

The city council can also extend the March alcohol ban, but only by a resolution passed by January 31 of the same year.

Beach rules

What's banned in March, and what all year

The rules come from the city's and the county's codes of ordinances. Visit Panama City Beach's FAQ says alcohol is allowed on the beach for people 21 and over outside March. The city code is stricter in a few places: drinking is banned all year in city parks, and the code counts as parks its "City Beaches": the public beach access easements and the sand within 400 feet east and west of the Russell-Fields City Pier.

Alcohol on the beach within city limits
Banned from 12:01 am on March 1 to 11:59 pm on March 31: you may not have or drink alcohol on the sand.
Alcohol on the beach outside the city
Bay County bans having or drinking alcohol in its beach zone in March too. Shell Island and Hurricane Island are outside that zone.
Parking lots in the county zone
No open containers and no drinking in parking areas in March, with exceptions such as the driveway of a single-family home and licensed bars.
Fines
Up to $500, up to 60 days in jail, or both, under the city and the county codes.
Glass
Glass containers are banned on the city's beach all year.
City parks and city beaches
Drinking is banned all year in city parks, including the beaches the code defines as city beaches, unless an event has a permit.
Photo ID (city)
Where drinking on the city's beach is allowed outside March, you must carry a government photo ID with your name, address and age and show it when asked.
Hotel age rules

Minimum check-in ages

The ages below are the hotels' own general policies, from their websites or their Expedia pages; three Expedia pages add spring break deposits or a higher age. During a declared High Impact Period, extra rules apply on top of them inside the marked zones. For 2026, the Bay County Sheriff's Office said no vacation rental could be rented to anyone under 21 during the period, and Visit Panama City Beach lists 21 as the minimum age to rent a vacation rental, with valid ID for every adult at check-in. The city's High Impact Period ordinance (No. 1667) also sets rules for lodging businesses; we couldn't read its full text. Sources: Bay County Sheriff's Office, Visit Panama City Beach: know before you go, City of Panama City Beach: High Impact Period 2026.

These are the hotels on our list that publish a minimum check-in age, from their own pages or Expedia. For the one other hotel, we haven't found a published age, so ask. "No extra rule for March" means the hotel names a minimum age but nothing more for spring break. Ask the hotel before you book in March: rules can change for the season. Areas follow the Visit Panama City Beach map, which draws no exact borders; a hotel the map doesn't name, we placed between the landmarks it does.

Before you pay, ask the hotel to confirm in writing: the ages of everyone in your group, any High Impact Period rules for your dates, deposits and fees, the minimum stay and the cancellation terms.

Swimming in March

Cold water and flags

The Gulf averages about 66 °F in March, measured at the city pier, and in a cold year it stays in the low 60s. Don't count on a lifeguard in March. The three lifeguarded beaches the tourism office lists start later: the city pier on April 1, the M.B. Miller County Pier and Rick Seltzer Park on May 27 (no year given). Until then the beach patrol moves along the beach as needed.

When two red flags fly, the water is closed to everyone, and going in can be fined. Text PCBFLAGS to 888777 to get the day's flag. The beach safety guide has the flag colors and what to do in a rip current.
